Pros

While most of the large-scale GenAI developments appear to happen in the US (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude) or in China (DeepSeek), Europe also has a significant AI development company: Mistral. While Mistral currently does not have a reasoning model like many other developers do, they do have another significant advantage: Their servers are located within the European Union. As a result, their services are subject to the data security and privacy laws of the EU, ensuring they cannot share your data with other parties without your consent, nor may they collect data they have no explicit need for.

In terms of functionality Mistral’s Le Chat is a comparable service to ChatGPT’s 4o model. Their model can analyze documents and images, generate images (using the German BlackForestLabs Flux Ultra model), generate/edit and run code via a code interpreter, and quickly edit text and code via an interactive Canvas feature. As Mistral does not allow the user to disable the training of their models on entered data for free users, caution is still warranted when using this model.
