How to plan a thesis, research practice or internship through flexible planning?
You can use the Osiris PlanApp to plan your individual study programme and to request approval for your electives. Planning your courses, such as thesis, research practice or internship, can be done in several ways in the PlanApp. Via Plan Later (A), via Curriculum (B) and via the Course Catalogue (C).
NOTE: Theses, internships and research practices take place in multiple periods and/or years. It is important to note that you cannot plan these courses over several years. So, you have to plan such a course in the periods of the year in which the largest part of the course takes place. For example, a course which you want to take in period 5 and 6 of year 2 and period 1 of year 3. In this case, you plan the course in period 5 and 6 of year 2 only.
NOTE: For a thesis, research practice and internship there are often several course codes. If the thesis, research practice or internship is part of your study programme in the curriculum, you should choose that code. However, if it is part of your electives you have to choose the code that ends with 24. When the thesis, research practice or internship is more than 24 ECTS, you can extend it via the Plan menu. This is explained in section D.
BE AWARE to always save your plan in between changes and before you close the PlanApp. Additionally, to make your plan definite, you need to request approval for your electives. For information on how to request approval for your electives, see the manual How to request approval for electives?
This manual describes how to plan a thesis, research practice or internship in the PlanApp
A. How to plan a thesis, research practice or internship via Plan Later
1. In the Plan menu, click PLAN LATER at the upper right of your screen to unfold the PLAN LATER menu
You can use the PLAN LATER menu to plan courses of your curriculum you still need or want to plan. This includes a thesis, research practice and/or internship.
2. Look up the thesis, research practice or internship you want to plan and click PLAN NOW
For the sake of this manual, we will continue with planning an internship. However, planning a thesis or research practice requires the same steps.
3. When PLAN NOW is chosen, choose in which year you plan to follow the internship
How to add an extra year to your plan is described in the manual How to add a year to/delete a year from my planning?
Again, be aware that you cannot plan a thesis, research practice or internship over several years. So, you have to plan such a course in the periods of the year in which the largest part of the course takes place.
4. Select the periods in which you plan on taking the internship
5. Scroll to the right side and click on OK when you are satisfied with your selection
6. Now you can see the internship in the Plan menu for the selected year and periods
B. How to plan a thesis, research practice or internship via Curriculum
1. Click on Curriculum at the top of your screen
In the Curriculum menu an overview of the different components of your study programme are shown. This includes a thesis, research practice and/or internship.
2. To plan an internship, look up the internship options in your curriculum and click on PLAN NOW
TIP: Beneath the different components of your curriculum it is shown what the minimum number of points is you need to achieve for this component (for electives this is always 0), what number of points you already achieved and what number of points you already planned. When you achieved the minimum number of credits for a component, a check mark will appear behind that specific component.
TIP: You can click on the course name to get more information on the course.

C. How to plan a thesis, research practice or internship via Course Catalogue
1. Click Course Catalogue at the top of your screen
You can use the Course Catalogue to search for courses you want to follow. Here, all courses offered at Wageningen University & Research are shown.
2. Click COURSES at the upper left of the screen
3. You now see an overview of all the courses offered at Wageningen University & Research. You can now search for the thesis, research practice or internship you want to plan through the search bar or by using the filters

4. To plan the research practice of you choice you can either choose PLAN NOW or PLAN LATER
When you click PLAN LATER, the course will appear in the PLAN LATER menu next to your programme overview in the Plan menu. How to plan a courses from a specialisation via Plan later is described in A. How to plan a thesis, research practice or internship via Plan later.

5. When PLAN NOW is chosen, choose in which year you plan to follow the internship

7. Scroll to the right side and click on OK when you are satisfied with your selection
8. Now you can see the internship in the Plan menu for the selected year and periods
D. How to plan an extension of your thesis, research practice or internship via Plan menu
Planning an extension of your thesis, research practice or internship is only necessary if you do not have enough credits (120 ECTS) to submit your programme for approval. If you do plan an extension, then the extension will be fixed when your grade is entered and the amount of credits of your thesis, research practice or internship will be changed. For example: for the internship HNH70424 the amount of credits can be set to 36, when your internship time was approximately 6 months. The code of the internship will not change into HNH70436.
The + function in the Plan menu should be used to indicate that you want to extend your thesis, research practice or internship beyond the minimum number of credits mentioned in your study programme.
1. Click the + in the year and period you would like to plan an extension of a thesis, research practice or internship
2. Insert 'Internship extension to 30ECTS' at Custom course and 6 at Number of ECTS
3. Click ADD to add the internship extension to the selected period
4. Now you can see the internship extension to 30 ECTS in the Plan menu
